Is A Programmable/Smart Thermostat For You?

Updated: Mar 3, 2020

We have all heard that a smart or programmable thermostat will save money. But are you really saving 10%-30%? The answer is no. The average savings from using a programmable or smart thermostat is about 6.2%. When your T-Stat program raises the temperature It will eventually have to lower the temperature when you ask it to. So your system will have to work that much harder to bring the temp back down to a comfortable temp. With the complexity in setting up a programmable unit most will use the "Hold" function to maintain temperatures reducing the savings even more. So spending $250 on that fancy thermostat with all those "learning" features may be for some but not for all. Call Sun Air Services with any HVAC or thermodynamic related questions.
